Create your first App on LinkedIn

To get data from any social network, we need to register ourselves and authorize first. Same way, in LinkedIn we will create a application and register our live website to get a key. This key will later used by LinkedIn to authorize every time when we try to access its data.

Let’s start in pieces…

LinkedIn’ Developer page

We never bothered about this but everyone has there own developers’ pages where we can register or app.

So, first register on LinkedIn if not and login to access this link. You can see something like this..

Creating the application

Once you are on the Create Application page, you need to fill in your details.

The important section that you need to enter is as highlighted in the image:

  • Website URL – You need to enter your website’s URL.
  • OAuth Redirect URL – You need to enter your website’s URL.
  • JavaScript API Domains – You need to enter your domain name here.
  • rw_nus – You need to tick this option.

Once you have set the above settings, click on the next button and proceed with the next step.

Get API Key and Secret Key

Now if you will be able to see a list of applications that you have created in your LinkedIn Developers frontpage. To get the “API key” and “Secret key” just click on the application name.

In future, you have update website url if you change your registered domain name.

Hope this will help someone in need.
